My E6410 is pre-installed with Windows 7 professional but my software required windows XP to run. The following steps were necessary for making it dual boot.
1. Resize original Windows 7 partition to 40G (a C: partition) and create a new ntfs primary partition (a D: partition) using Gparted
2. Install windows XP professional. You can get an old winXP pro CD you have, borrow it or download it.
3. With Windows XP installed on D: drive, download easyBCD AND dotnetfx 2.0 Install dotnetfx 2.0 first then easyBCD.
4. Run easy and Add New Entry, and select "Windows 7" as type and C:\ as drive. Finally click Add Entry.
5. In Bootloader setup choose "Install widows 7 bootloader on MBR" and click "write MBR".
6. Exit easyBCD and reboot in to windows 7.
7. copy the make and model of hardware (network card, video, wirteless, etc using device manager). Then download at least the wireless and network. As of Nov 26, 2010, the network card is Intel 82577LM Gigabit Network

Preparation of 1ppm aspartam solution for MTQ injection
1 sachet of Equal contains 36mg of aspartam.
1 sacket in 500mL of water gives 36mg/600mL concentration = 0.06 mg/mL = 60ppm in water.
Add 10uL of this solution to 590 uL of water gives 1ppm solution of aspartam.

How to update ncbi database on MASCOT
Download ncbi nr database from the following link. Download the nr.gz file. Once done, take the following steps.
1. Extract the nr.gz. Copy the file to D:\NETPUB\mascot\sequence\ncbinr\incoming. Rename the extracted file to ncbinr_YYYYMMDD.fasta, where YYYYMMDD is the current date.
2. On database maintenance page, select ncbinr and set it to "inactive". Click OK.
3. Move the files in D:\NETPUB\mascot\sequence\ncbinr\current to D:\NETPUB\mascot\sequence\ncbinr\old. Then, move the file in 1 to D:\NETPUB\mascot\sequence\ncbinr\current.
4. Finally, wait until the file is indexed, go back to database maintenance page and set the status of ncbinr database to "active".

Workflow for Quantitation on MTQ
Things to ptimize transfer, then ionization and finally calibration.
1. Prepare 1 ppm solution of analyte standard in 50:50 Water:MeOH or ACN.
2. Infuse and optimize parameter to maximize signals
CC RF, Q lowmass, Transfer time (add EIC of compound of interest). (flow rate 180-240 uL/hr)
3. With a Tee, connect HPLC flowing with mobile phase at the desired flow rate. Optimize nebulizer gas and dry gas.
4. Add calibration segment and adjust the run time.
5. Remove the Tee and infuse calibrant and calibrate the instrument.
6. Save method as.
Note. Changing transfer time to maximize signal may shorten the mass range. The calibration mode may have to be adjusted. (for Caffeine, we used NaFormate and had to use TOF calibration version 2 (with Enhanced Quadratic as calibration mode) because the mass range only extends from 158 to 400 and only a few calibration points are visible.

Why my signals surge when I increase the nebulizer gas?
We infused 1ppm caffeine to MTQ with standard spray condition for infusion. The signal disappears slowly when initially sprayed to the system. Nothing we do will improve the signal, until we increase nebulizer gas pressure from 0.5 to 1.0 then 2, and 3 bars. Each time signal surged and then drop. Later we found that it was because the syringe pump was not working. The surge of signal was due to the nebulizer gas drawing the same from the spray needle.

3. ตัดช่องเจาะรูบริเวณที่ติดเทปกาวสีดำ จะเจาะเป็นรู กลม รูสี่เหลี่ยมก็ได้ โดยเจาะให้กว้างพอที่แมลงวันบินเข้าไปได้สะดวก

and then check the "Enable CD Recording On This Drive" box.

Mine was "Enable", so I toggled it on and off. Then it seems to work.

I just started getting this error (acouple of weeks ago) and I wasn't sure what was going on. I don't have Roxio installed and have been using Nero for forever. I wasn't sure why it started messing up. I googled a bit and came to first the Microsoft site (which didn't work/wasn't applicable to me) and then this thread (which was useless and didn't apply to me). I dinked around on my comp and eventually fixed my problem. the rest of you may wanna try this out. not sure why it fixed it, or if it'll fix yours, but here goes:
Right-Click on the drive w/ the problem
Properties
Recording Tab
and then check the "Enable CD Recording On This Drive" box.
and that fixed it.

Parsing rule for Spirulina amino acid database at biotec
1. Open the file to be converted with windows wordpad.exe and save the file as "Text-document MS Dos format" with extension *.faa (in this case Spirulina_KMITT.faa".
2. Create a folder
C:\inethub\mascot\sequence\Spirulina_KMITT\current
2. Copy the Spirulina_KMITT.faa to the folder above.
3. Open database maintenance
4. Click New Definition
5. Type in Name "Spirulina_KMITT".
Notice "Select" will change to the same name.
Select "Inactive"
Select "AA"
check Mem map
Taxonomy "none"
6. Path = C:/inethub/mascot/sequence/Spirulina_KMITT/current/Spirulina_KMITT.faa
7. Rule to parse accesstion string from Fasta file = rule 33
8. Rule to parse description string from Fasta file = rule 34
9. Rule to parse accession string from local reference file: --no local reference file--
Host and path are empty
10. Click "Test this definition" to test the new rule. We should obtain two column of accession number and description
11. Select "Active"

Unknown error and injection stops when trying to start a run in HyStar
1. Is there a sample vial in the autosampler? If not, place the sample vial. If yes, go to 2.
2. Is there a transport solvent for your uLpickup? No, place transport solvent., No, I am not using uLpickup. Go to 3.
3. RMB on Acquisition menu of HyStar and select "Commands"
4. At commands lit, LMB on +System to expand the System menu.
5. LMB on AbortBatch followed by LMB on "Execute"
6. LMB on AbortSample followed by LMB on "Execute"
7. At HyStar Acquistion page, reload sample.

Concentration of proteins for in-solution triptic digest
Typical concentration for in-solution of protein is between 1 to 2 picomole. We supply 5uL of 0.4 ug/uL for digestion. This should be sufficient.

Recipe for Sodium salts used to calibrate TOF
For Sodium formate:
10ml Water
10ml Water
10ml Isopropanol
40ul Formic Acid
200ul NaOH (1 molar)
All solvents must be of highest quality.
For sodium acetate:

10ml Isopropanol
11ul Acetic Acid
200ul NaOH (1 molar)
12.5 mL H2O
12.5 mL isopropyl alcohol (ACN can also be used)
50 µL TFA acid (conc.)
250 µL 1 M NaOH
* I find NaOH is not always available. NaHCO3 (baking soda)
21mg NaHCO3=250uL 1M NaOH
17mg NaHCO3=200uL 1M NaOH
